Michael John LaChiusa: The Highest Yellow

  • Kimball Recital Hall 1113 R Street Lincoln, NE, 68508 United States (map)

Any mention of Vincent van Gogh is likely to bring to mind the fact that he severed his ear. Our opera tells the story of the six months immediately following the night he infamously cut off his ear. Vincent was brought to the local hospital where he was treated by a young intern, Dr. Félix Rey. Dr. Rey believed he could help Vincent recover from the sickness that drove Vincent into psychotic episodes. History reveals that Dr. Rey and Vincent developed a friendship. Through a mingling of fact and fiction in The Highest Yellow, we discover what that friendship may have been.

UNL Opera is proud to present the first full production of this new opera-cum-musical since the work’s commission by the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre.
